Sheriff Gabe Morgan and his staff are committed to providing the highest level of professional, ethical, and fiscal service to, the residents of Newport News by operating two secure Adult Detention Centers; providing safety and security for the city’s 3 courthouses and 13 courtrooms; and serving/executing court documents on behalf of the courts.

The Sheriff’s Office staff is “Committed to Making a Difference” in our community, schools, places of business and in the lives of incarcerated individuals to make Newport News a better place to work, live and play.

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office houses incarcerated individuals in both the City Jail and Jail Annex

The City Jail is a maximum-security facility with indirect supervision consisting of 7 floors that include a lockup, dormitory pods, cells blocks, and isolation cells.

The Jail Annex is a minimum-security facility with dormitory pods and cells. The Jail Annex provides a host re-entry programs for incarcerated individuals upon their release.

We know the importance of meeting the standards set forth in PREA law. Our PREA annual reports are posted for your review.

We voluntarily undergo this review of our practices and procedures by the Va. Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission. Accreditation lasts 4 years.

For the fifth consecutive year and the seventh time in nine years, the NNSO has been recognized as a Best for Vets Employer acknowledging our commitment to veterans, reservists, and their families.
