Professional Standards Bureau
This is where accountability lives.
The Professional Standards Bureau makes sure the Newport News Sheriff’s Office shows up with integrity, professionalism, and transparency — every single day. We’re responsible for employee conduct and for keeping our agency in compliance with state and national standards, so the community gets service they can actually trust.
We handle staff training, professional development, certifications, and misconduct investigations. That means holding the line on ethics while continuously leveling up skills and leadership across the office.
We also work alongside federal partners like the DEA, ATF, and U.S. Marshals, and collaborate with the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy to ensure our practices meet the highest standards in public safety.

But accountability doesn’t stop with us — it includes you. We’re committed to ethical, responsible, and fiscally smart service in our community, schools, workplaces, and within our facilities. Your feedback matters. Honest input — good or bad — helps us improve, adapt, and do better for Newport News.
Transparency isn’t optional. It’s the standard.
