Re-Entry Division

We’re setting the standard for second chances.

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office is a state leader in re-entry services, focused on helping people successfully transition back into the community. Our re-entry team connects incarcerated individuals with real opportunities — education, housing, employment, mental health support, substance-use treatment, and essential social services — because re-entry shouldn’t mean starting from zero.

Our approach is intentional and results-driven. We work to strengthen public safety while reducing repeat incarceration, substance abuse, and homelessness. At the same time, we focus on what actually builds stability: better health, meaningful work, stronger family connections, and long-term support systems.

Through strong partnerships with city and state agencies, we make sure support doesn’t stop at the gate. Collaboration is how progress happens — and how communities get safer, stronger, and more connected.

Second chances aren’t soft. They’re smart.
