The Operations Bureau is our largest bureau. The bureau is responsible for providing the care, security, protection, custody and control of incarcerated individuals in the Newport News City Jail and Jail Annex.
The bureau is staffed with approximately 100 men and women who oversee a average daily incarcerated population of about 450 individuals.
The City Jail is a maximum-security facility with indirect supervision consisting of 7 floors that include a lockup, dormitory pods, cells blocks, and isolation cells.
The Jail Annex is a minimum-security facility with dormitory pods and cells. The Jail Annex provides a host re-entry programs for incarcerated individuals upon their release.
