NNSO badgeInmate Phone Services

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office (NNSO) operates a secure inmate phone system under contract with Securus Technologies, Inc. The NNSO extends telephone privileges to unrestricted inmates to help them maintain personal communications and ties by placing outgoing collect calls to friends and family in the community who have agreed to accept such calls. Each call is limited to 15 minutes in order to allow equitable use of the phone system by all inmates.

All calls are recorded and subject to monitoring due to security concerns like protecting victims and potential witnesses from harassing telephone calls, reducing opportunities for continued criminal activities from inside the jail, threats to others and escape prevention.

  • Don’t transfer or put the call on hold
  • Don’t use or answer call waiting
  • Don’t move out of range of your cordless phone (static)
  • Don’t use a speaker phone or amplified phone
  • Don’t yell into the phone
  • Don’t cover mouthpiece to mute phone
  • Don’t press extra numbers on the touch-tone keypad
  • Don’t stop your conversation for any length of time
