NNSO supports Day of Service Food Drive 2025
UPDATE: January 21, 2025:
The Day of Service Food Drive was a great success! Because of our generous community, enough food was donated equalling 32,000 meals. Financial gifts reached $10,000. The Va. Peninsula Foodbank and Sheriff Morgan are grateful to everyone who braved the freezing temperatures to donate.
Sheriff's Office employees collected nearly 500 pounds of food and $200 for the 2025 event.

The holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrates his life and legacy. You can help celebrate that legacy of public service by giving to the 9th Annual Day of Service Food Drive.
It will be held on January 20 at the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, 2401 Aluminum Avenue in Hampton, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Drive up and give your donation to Mayor Phillip Jones, Councilman John Eley, Sheriff Gabe Morgan, Police Chief Steve Drew, Fire Chief Wesley Rogers, and other community leaders.
Your gift of shelf-stable boxed and canned food or financial support is needed now more than ever. Foodbank officials say donations are down by about 25% compared to this time in 2024.
This annual effort, started by former Mayor McKinley Price, helps fill the shelves after the holidays to benefit families facing food insecurity.
Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference to our neighbors in need.
Newport News Sheriff's Office personnel are doing their part, bringing in bags of canned goods that will end up at the Foodbank. Help us stock the shelves with essential items such as:
- Canned meats (tuna, salmon, chicken, Spam, corned beef)
- Canned fruits or fruit cups
- Canned vegetables
- Meaty soups
- Spaghetti sauce and pasta
- Cereal
- Peanut butter and jelly
- Rice, instant potatoes, and beans (canned or dry)
- Granola bars
- Fruit and vegetable juice
