Public safety is a team effort.

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office offers crime-prevention programs, specialty services, and safety education for all ages — supporting our neighborhoods, schools, and local businesses where it matters most.

Our deputies show up every day to build real connections, keep communication open, and work alongside the community to prevent crime before it happens. The goal isn’t just enforcement — it’s trust, awareness, and safer spaces for everyone.

Because when the community is involved, safety sticks.

Medical Division

Health care doesn’t stop at the jail doors.

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office is responsible for meeting the medical, mental health, and dental needs of individuals housed in the City Jail and Jail Annex. By running our own in-house medical team, we’re able to deliver care that’s timely, consistent, and responsive — not delayed by outside systems.

Our medical team includes Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses, Medication Technicians, Licensed Mental Health Professionals, a Nurse Practitioner, a Health Services Administrator, a Medical Doctor, and a Dentist. Together, they provide comprehensive care focused on health, safety, and stability.

Public Information Office

Public Information Office

Keeping it real, keeping you informed.

The Public Information Office is the bridge between the Newport News Sheriff’s Office and the community. We make sure information is open, honest, and easy to access — whether it’s through the news or our social media channels.

We also handle Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, giving the public access to records and data when needed.

Transparency isn’t optional. It’s how we build trust.

Administration Bureau

Administration Bureau

This is the engine behind the operation.

The Administration Bureau keeps the Sheriff’s Office running smoothly behind the scenes. From finance and payroll to HR, IT, and purchasing, this team handles the systems that power the people.

We also lead recruitment and retention, making sure the right people are hired, supported, and set up to succeed — not just to start, but to stay and grow.

As the key link between the Sheriff’s Office and city departments, the Administration Bureau keeps communication clear, processes efficient, and operations moving forward.

No spotlight. No shortcuts. Just the work that makes everything else possible.
