How are we doing?
Message from Sheriff Gabe Morgan:
All members of the NNSO are expected to perform professional, quality, customer-focused service to those we encounter daily during the performance of our duties. However, there may be times when you have a particularly memorable moment because the service you received went “above and beyond” your expectations. Please share that experience with us. We forward commendations to the employee’s chain of command so that both the employee and supervisor are notified. The commendation is placed in their personnel record.
The Newport News Sheriff's Office is committed to providing the highest quality of service. To be responsive to the needs of the community, we need your input. Constructive comments about our service, good or bad, will help us to improve our services and achieve our goals.
There is no greater form of recognition a deputy or employee can receive than a compliment from those they have assisted. A few words of thanks mean a great deal. When you submit a letter of appreciation, the employee and his/her chain of command, including Sheriff Gabe Morgan, are made aware of the outstanding performance. A copy of the letter is also placed in the employee's personnel file.
If you want to acknowledge a deputy or an employee who protects our community's values, follow the instructions below.
- Come into the Sheriff's Office and ask to speak to a supervisor;
- Download the Commendation Form by clicking the button at the top of this column, then fill it out detailing your compliment and mail it to:

Anonymous Complaints
Anonymous complaints will be accepted; however, the Sheriff’s Office may be limited in its options for investigating and/or resolving them because of the unique challenges they present.
For instance, there is no way to assess the author’s accuracy and we have no ability to obtain additional information if the complaint is unclear or confusing.
Be assured that anonymous complaints will be investigated to the best of our ability.
