The Professional Standards Bureau oversees the conduct of all employees of the Newport News Sheriff’s Office. Use of force, policy, accreditation, training, and recruitment and retention are among the areas that fall under the purview of this bureau.
The bureau also maintains the General Orders manual, a guide based on nationally-accepted practices and standards. All Newport News Sheriff’s Office employees are required to follow agency policies and observe its Code of Conduct. The Professional Standards Bureau investigates any report of possible misconduct through its Internal Affairs division.
Each area undergoes regular review to ensure adherence to standards and practices set by Sheriff Gabe Morgan.
