Applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff go through a comprehensive series of steps designed to advance those who are most qualified and prepared for every aspect of being a Deputy Sheriff.
The physicalfitness/agility test is designed to simulate typical work-related situations that require the ability to perform specific physical activities.

The written exam is designed to measure the reading comprehension necessary to successfully complete all required employment training and certification. There are three sections:
A comprehensive background investigation will be conducted on each applicant. The investigation includes but is not limited to verifying information about prior employment, drug use, personal references, criminal records, Department of Motor Vehicle records, and credit records.

This examination is used to verify data in the Background Information Packet. Deception noted in the areas of automatic disqualifiers may prevent further processing.
Applicants are scheduled for an oral interview with the assessment board. The assessment board’s responsibility is to evaluate the applicant’s qualities, personal characteristics and ability to perform as a Deputy Sheriff.
During the interview, applicants will be asked questions to measure their communication skills, professional qualifications and life experiences as they may relate to the position.
Medical Examination
Candidates must take a physical exam and be determined to be fit for duty. Any medical condition will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine if it will interfere with the candidate’s ability to perform the essential functions of a Deputy Sheriff. The exam may include:
